Page 05. April 2017. There's rot in me kitchen.

Having removed the old fridge and tried our replacement fridge for size, we felt it best to remove the whole kitchen unit to check for damp and rotten timber in the frame behind. With the kitchen unit and hardboard walls removed, we could see the poor condition of the wood in this area.
Window frame is rotten. Better check below.

Kitchen unit removed.
Rotten frame.
Damp wall board. Better check behind.

Most of this frame is rotten
All rotten frame cut out.

Part of the window frame needed replacing due to its resemblance to a Weetabix, as did sections of the "shelves" below and above the window. These shelves brace the entire ends of the caravan and the bodywork is screwed to them, so they’re pretty important. Most of the framing in the short wall between the rear corner and door was rotten too. This frame was  replaced with Red Grandis hardwood from a local timber merchant. The new parts of the shelves were cut from plywood and coated with yacht varnish.

New hardwood frame.
New pine frame (later replaced with oak)

Amazingly, the frame below the kitchen window was OK, as was the timber in the closet.

Closet window frame all solid.
It's been damp but not rotten.
It was a year later when we dealt with the rest of the caravan’s wooden frame, but more of that some other time.
