Page 03. February 2017. Home at last.

As mentioned, it took time to accrue the funds for vehicle access at home, but it took even longer to engage a contractor, wait for them to do the work, then wait again for them to correct their errors. They thought a seven foot wide gate in an eight foot gap was acceptable, closing the difference with an assortment of fence posts and other scrap. Even after a second gate was fabricated, they still omitted any means of fitting a padlock!

Three months after starting the works, we finally had access to the garden for the Viking. Having been under a tree at the farm from July to February, the first job was to clean off the dirt and sap.

Home at last, we could now start to properly assess what we had. A mechanic friend inspected the oily bits and declared the brakes OK, apart from a seized linkage, but one of the wheel bearings was so badly damaged, he was amazed we had got the ‘van home in one piece. Fortunately, these bearings are still available and a new set was ordered and fitted.
Outer part should be round!
